Orthodontics Runs in the Family

The first step on the path to your new smile is a complimentary initial consultation. It’s a no-pressure opportunity for you to experience our team, first-hand, meet with Dr. Haltom or Tucker Haltom, get your questions answered – and find out what all your options are. The entire process takes about an hour and is designed to give you a sense of what it’s like to be a member of our family of patients.

As you walk into either our Albuquerque  or Los Lunas office you will get the feeling of walking into an authentic New Mexico adobe home. Our front office areas are designed to feel more like a living room than a dental office. In the winter you will be greeted by a warm fire burning in the kiva fireplace and always a smile as you walk in the door. It really is like visiting family where everyone gets along and is excited to see you.

Our new office in Grants is ultra modern but the feel will still be warm and welcoming. You will be greeted with the same warm smile as you walk in and we always treat our patients like family and do our best to make you feel at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Treatment

Does orthodontic treatment cause gingivitis or caries?

No, orthodontic treatment does not cause gingivitis or caries. Poor oral hygiene and plaque accumulation are the main reason for the development of caries. This is why it is very important to keep your teeth and braces clean during your treatment.

How long will it take to complete treatment?

Treatment time is different for every patient because everyone’s treatment is personalized. When you have your initial evaluation, we will be able to give you a very good idea of how long your treatment will take.

Do you use recycled braces?

No. We never reuse brackets or wires.

Do I need to see my family dentist while in braces?

We recommend that you see your family dentist at least twice a year during orthodontic treatment. If you don’t have a family dentist, we can provide the necessary cleanings right in our office during your treatment.

Can orthodontic correction occur while a child has baby teeth?

We cannot move teeth that have not yet erupted. That’s why most orthodontic treatment occurs after the age of 12, when the second set of molars appear. However, baby teeth can be moved orthodontically in order to create the proper space for the adult teeth.

Does orthodontic treatment cause gingivitis or caries?

No, orthodontic treatment does not cause gingivitis or caries. Poor oral hygiene and plaque accumulation are the main reason for the development of caries. This is why it is very important to keep your teeth and braces clean during your treatment.

Is it too late to have braces if I am already an adult?

You’re never too old to get a healthy, beautiful smile with braces or clear aligners. In fact, over 25% of our patients are adults.

Does whitening damage teeth?

Whitening, or bleaching, of the teeth can cause damage if done too often. We offer two forms of whitening and will work with you to make sure you get the maximum benefit without causing damage to your teeth.

Life with Braces

Can I still play sports?

Yes, you can. There’s no reason for you to stop enjoying sports and other activities you enjoy during your treatment. However, we recommend wearing a special mouthguard, designed to “float” over your braces, any time your activity could result in you being hit in the face with a ball or any other form of contact to your face is possible.

How often should I brush my teeth while in braces?

Keeping your teeth clean is always important – and even more so while wearing braces. We recommend that you brush well every morning, before you go to bed and after every meal and snack.

Do I need to see my family dentist while in braces?

We recommend that you see your family dentist at least twice a year during orthodontic treatment. If you don’t have a family dentist, we can provide the necessary cleanings right in our office during your treatment.

Appointments

What will happen at the initial examination appointment?

At your initial examination appointment, you will have the opportunity to share your treatment goals, meet our team and meet with one of our doctors. This appointment offers an excellent opportunity to get answers to your questions and find out what options are best for you.

How do I schedule an appointment for an initial exam?

To schedule an initial exam you can call the office during normal business hours or, if you prefer, you can fill out the form on the Patient Information Page and we will contact you to set up your appointment.

Cost and Financing

How much will braces cost? Are financing options available? Do you accept insurance?

The investment required is dependent on the treatment that is prescribed. However, when you have your initial consultation we can give you specific information about your investment. We do offer payments plans to make your treatment affordable. While we do not accept direct payment from insurance carriers, we will work with you to help you maximize your benefits. As us about this when you have your consultation.
